2012 WSOP has witnessed another record with Phil Hellmuth winning his 12th WSOP bracelet. In the World Series of Poker circuit, the bracelet has a lot of prominence and winning one of the few bracelets that are given in every tournament is considered a matter of privilege. Phil Hellmuth has garnered this privilege a dozen times with his latest win. No other player in the history of the game has won the bracelet so many times. The event which brought him his 12th bracelet was the final round at Event 18, which was played with $2500 buy in.
Lovingly known as the Poker Brat, this professional poker player has more WSOP bracelets than any other player in the history of the tournament. Players who have the next most number of bracelets are Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. Both the players have ten bracelets each. Johnny Moss, one of the most renowned names in poker, has nine bracelets to his name. However, the one player who has the highest chance of catching up with Phil Hellmuth is Phil Ivey. Aged 36, this player has eight bracelets in his kitty already and is in great form at the moment.
Although Phil Hellmuth has been winning bracelets consistently, he has not had many WSOP wins. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, he finished in the third place in the final table. In 2011, Hellmuth finished second in three events. Phil Helmuth must have definitely been disappointed since the championship looms temptingly close to him but seems extremely distant at the last moment. About his skill and expertise in the game, there are no questions because he is one of the most accomplished players on the table.
This win is going to hold a special place in Hellmuth’s career record because this is his virgin bracelet win in an event which is non Texas Hold’em. He has won seven of twelve bracelets in No Limit Hold’em format, three in Limit Hold’em format and a single bracelet in Pot Limit Hold’em format. His twelfth comes from a different format, thereby proving that Hellmuth’s skill is not limited to a particular format of poker.
With this win, Hellmuth has taken his record of WSOP cash win events to 87. The second in line is Men Nguyen who has amassed 75 wins and closely following up is Erik Seidel with a total of 70 wins. The cash that he has won from WSOP in his career is $7,832,465.
